10 Trending Hairstyles of 2021
You made it through lockdown with your experimental self-cut bangs and at-home bleaching nightmares, and now that the world has opened back up, you need a new ‘do. This years’ trends are a culmination of styles from the 70s, 80s, and 90s with a fresh flair for self-expression. What will you try out next?
Bobs
Come one, come all! No matter the style of bob- asymmetrical, blunt, and otherwise- you’ll be on trend this year. There’s something fun and freeing about a short cut and the possibilities are endless! The bob is great on any face shape, hair texture, and can fit into anyone’s personal style.
Pixies
A timeless classic. We love a great low maintenance ‘do! The pixie took a modern twist this year with more of a long, A-line shape. This cut is super versatile with many variations to highlight your unique flair.
Embellished Edges
A beautiful updo really lies in the details, doesn’t it? Dress up your edges and ponytail with gemstones just like Olympic Tennis Star Naomi Osaka. We love this look and see it popping up everywhere! Create the look with jewels or pearls along your favorite edge design using lash glue and tweezers to place each gem.
Natural Texture
This year has been all about embracing your natural texture! There are a plethora of ways to wear this style- a rounded ‘fro, faux hawk, deep side-parted ‘fro, and many more. Show off your curls with one of these styles!
Vivids
The pandemic certainly made room for everyone to test out hair color unlike ever before. We can’t get enough of these vivid color trends such as the two-toned look, colored bangs, pastel and holographic rainbow hair.
Bangin’
Curtain Bangs
The perfect go-to. These face framing bangs are easy to style, quick to grow out, and make for a striking new look. Since the bangs are already long, maintenance is simple and hassle-free.
Blunt Bangs
Any type of bang is a quick way to freshen up your look. This blunt fringe is great for any face shape and dresses up a basic ponytail in 2 seconds flat.
The Chop
The buzz cut season we’ve all been waiting for (thanks Lorde)! Leave your long locks in the past with this style. Go as short as you desire! A tapered short ‘do and buzz cuts are all the rage this year. Just because you go short, doesn’t mean you can forget to moisturize those tresses though. Keep the hair and scalp conditioned for nourished locks.
Warm Color
If you haven’t seen this trend, where have you been? We’re seeing a major shift to warm hair colors this year- the auburns, the coppers- they’re everywhere and we can’t get enough! Take notes from Sza’s coppery ‘do.
The Shag
This style made a comeback in 2020 and has remained a huge trend this year. Celebrities have been rocking their own variations of the cut. The shag is great because it can be worked into any length of hair and can be paired with blunt or curtain bangs. Be mindful that this style requires A TON of layering to create texture.
Mullets
It’s like we tore a page right out of the 80s! Mullets are making a major comeback with modern flair. The texture in these mullets is brought out by the cut itself and not by the natural hair pattern. Face-framing layers are the hallmark of this look!
