A Chat With Cosmetology Graduate Alyssa Celli

It’s always a great day when we get to talk with one of our amazing graduates! We recently spoke to Alyssa Celli, who graduated from the cosmetology program at our Largo campus in December 2018. Here’s what she’s been up to since graduation!

Girl named Alyssa holding a sign saying "be you"

Working as a Stylist

Before Alyssa started at American Institute of Beauty, she worked the front desk at Midori Organic Salon & Spa, an all-natural salon/spa in Largo. Now as a licensed cosmetologist, she’s a full-time stylist at Midori. “We work with all organic products that are free of sulphates, parabens, and synthetic [ingredients],” she says. “I didn’t know much about organic products when I first started [at Midori] but beauty school opened my eyes.”

Alyssa grew up with a hairdresser for a mother, which eventually inspired her to pursue beauty as a career.

“I love being able to express my creativity with beauty,” she says. “There’s always new things to learn. There’s never a dull experience. You feel like you never know everything because there’s always something new. I like making people feel good.”

Alyssa’s School Experience

Alyssa chose to attend American Institute of Beauty because her coworkers at Midori were graduates and thought it was a great school. After taking a tour, she knew it was the decision she wanted to make. “The people and administrators were very accommodating and nice,” she says. “Anytime I had questions, they were always there. The biggest part [of beauty school] is getting a good education. My teachers made that happen.” Her experience at our Largo campus helped her prepare for the business, creative, and customer service aspects of the beauty industry.

Advice for Future Students

For anyone who wants to pursue a future in the beauty industry, Alyssa says she’d recommend American Institute of Beauty in a heartbeat.

“I felt that I had a great education and was confident when I left,” she says. “It prepared me for my job. It’s a whole other world to jump into but I had my foot in the door and could give myself a running start.”

As creative and awesome as the industry is, pursuing a career in beauty isn’t going to be easy. It’s a lot of hard work. But if it’s something you really want, like Alyssa, push for it and it’ll be worth it in the end.
