How Do I Become a Cosmetologist in Florida?
To become a licensed Cosmetologist in the state of Florida, you will first need to find a beauty school, such as American Institute of Beauty, and meet our requirements to enroll. After enrollment, you’re ready to start our Cosmetology program, which is offered at both of our campuses conveniently located in Largo and St. Petersburg, Florida.
In our Cosmetology program you could learn:
- Hair cutting, design, styling
- Redken hair coloring (highlights, lowlights, balayage, etc.)
- Chemical services (perms, relaxers, etc.)
- Hair removal (waxing)
- Facials
- Manicuring & pedicuring
- Nail enhancements (such as acrylic)
- Makeup
- And more!
In AIB’s Cosmetology program, you also have the opportunity to elect to become certified in Bella Lash eyelash extensions**. In the state of Florida, you must have a Cosmetology, Skin Care, or Full Specialist license to offer this service.
After completing the Cosmetology program, you will need to pass the state board exam to become licensed. Our goal is to prepare you to take the state board exam through teaching the foundational and theoretical principles behind hair care, coupled with real-world guest experiences in our student salon.
**Additional fees will apply if certification is elected. This is not completed during program hours.
How Long Does It Take to Become a Cosmetologist in Florida?
The Cosmetology program at American Institute of Beauty can be completed in as little as 9 months*! We offer full-time/part-time day and part-time evening classes for ease and schedule flexibility.
