During this month, we pay tribute to the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.⁠ The anniversaries of independence for El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, Chile, and Belize all fall within Hispanic Heritage Month. This month is important because it gives us the opportunity to celebrate the integral role the Hispanic/Latino community has had in growing and shaping the United States.
